She wanted to opt for a concept that is a good mix of modern as well as traditional elements. The richly colored foliage surrounding the club and the well-manicured lawns made the reception site look more beautiful. Hafiz spent a good amount of money to make sure that all corners of the outdoor reception site are well lit up.  Battery operated flickering tea-lights were kept above the tables to dazzle up the place. Like Hafiz, other Bangladeshi couples are also putting in every possible effort and good time and money to make the decoration for their outdoor wedding affair unique and creative to create a lively atmosphere.

Cutting a wedding cake is a trend more associated with weddings in Western culture. However, this trend can now be seen even in weddings of non-Western countries and cultures such as Hindu marriages, Muslim marriages, Indian marriages and also Bangladeshi weddings. In fact, wedding couples in Asian countries have started paying more attention to the ceremony of cake cutting and choosing the right wedding cake flavor. This came out clearly in the Bangladeshi marriage of my friend- Sarfaraz Khan, who was holding a wedding cake cutting ceremony on the reception day.

Although Sarfaraz’s was an arranged marriage, he decided not to stick only to conventional customs but also to include certain ceremonies that are more a part of the Western culture. Keeping in mind the importance of marriage in Bangladeshi society, more and more couples in Bangladesh are going in for a fusion of the traditional as well as the modern customs.
