I belong to a archetypal middle-class, Muslim family; not too conservative, but not too liberal either. My father is a retired JCO of the Bangladesh Navy, and my mother is a homemaker. We are only two siblings (me and my younger brother). Both I and my brother are engineers; in mechanical and computer science respectively. All the family members are very close to and frank with each other. We all have strong religious convictions, in terms of actions though, we perform the obligatory issues (salah, zakat, halal income, etc.) but not much else.
We’ve got a plot in Chittagong but haven’t constructed a home there yet. We’ve also bought a flat in Chittagong, the project is under construction and will be ready by next year. In Gopalganj, we have a duplex home. It’s been four years that I’ve been working and my brother has just finished his studies. Both of us are currently applying to Western universities, intending to immigrate there; preferably to NA, UK, or Australia. We are somewhat disenchanted about the civic and economic conditions of BD, it’s not entirely bad, but with the same effort, we could do much better abroad.
